Pair-Puri & Boot Goddess

  • Nov. 7th, 2009 at 12:36 PM
Pair Puri - SanaAto

Hahaha! This pair-puri SanaAto crack is just too much. XDD Atobe sky diving into school! Uncle!Sanada chasing his precocious nephew around the yard! Love it. And then of course, the SanaAto manzai comic:

Neither of them look very happy about the prospect of pairing up for a comedy routine...

I still haven't read the interview with Suwabe and Kusunoki, but I'm sure it's quite amusing.

Still, I can't believe that they're selling this thing for the same price as a full length tankobon. It's barely 40 pages! o___O;; I think they could've waited until they gathered together all the parts and release it in one volume. A couple reviewers on amazon.co.jp were pretty shocked when they saw how slim the book was too.

booooOOOOots

My first boot purchase of the season has taken place! And I looooooooooove them. I got them from Duo boots in UK, who makes great calf fitted boots. The leather is so soft and wonderful, and the design! The buttons kill me!

Goshly, flist; life has turned completely upside-down! In the space of just two days, all sorts of things are happening:

1. Next year I may very well be living abroad for a year, probably in North America. No concrete plans yet and as such I'll spare you the details, but basically: being stationed as a "young emissary" from Israel in a Jewish community somewhere, working for the Jewish Agency. Chances are it'll be Southern New England, but technically could be anywhere, including Australia, Holland, England, Canada, and a million places in the US. Fingers crossed and details hopefully forthcoming. I'm still kind of reeling.

2. Possibly in a couple of months we'll be moving house, AGAIN. Those of you who have been around know that last year my mum and I have moved to the kibbutz, and before that I lived a year in Tel-Aviv, and before that in another, different town up north. Seems to be we can't shake the moving bug, because we might be moving to a different house (still within the kibbutz though, which is a relief). Pros: it's right next to my grandparents' house! (♥) Cons: I really like our current place, small and cozy as it is. We'll have to see how things play out.

3. I am THIS CLOSE, THIS CLOSE to finishing my project, y'all. The same one I talk about here. Also, today I'm sending it out to all the people who showed interest, so if you want to read a wicked awesome dissertation about trickster-figures in Norse and Jewish mythology, drop me a line. I will KISS YOU, seriously. All the cool kids are doing it.

4. I GOT MY CAST TAKEN OFF. FUCKING SCORE, YOU GUYS. My leg had sprouted a small forest in the meantime, jesus. There are pictures! Soon in a post near you.

5. YULETIDE. Who's signing up, maggots? Because I sure as hell am! (Blame [info]roga when I crash and burn.)

I'm sorry this is so late; my home remodeling went seriously weird. I think I have evenything back on track, but it really made me ill-suited to write. I'll do better from now on.

Where/when/who would you visit?

  • Nov. 5th, 2009 at 7:34 PM
Hi everyone, it's been so quiet here of late I thought I'd pose a question. If you could travel into any one of the books and into any scene of your choice and stay for an hour, where and when and who would you visit?

I think, and I might change my mind later, I'd have to visit the quarry whilst Verity was carving his dragon. I've love to share the tent with Fitz , Nighteyes, Fool & Kettle - just imagine that - aah!! Mind you, I'd be so busy listening and observing I'm not sure I'd pluck up the courage to say anything myself.

Two Drama CDs I have never heard before

  • Nov. 4th, 2009 at 4:09 PM
So I went to yaoi con. My surprising find? A table at the swap meet with a hell of a lot of Saiyuki drama CDs for a dollar each.

I figured I had all of them thanks to the internets, but I really wanted to own them. And for a dollar each? Hells yes. So I bought all of them there, which was 16 of them.

But there was a surprise! Two of them, simply titled "Saiyuki 1" and "Saiyuki 2" were ones I had never heard before. They were made in 1999 with the original OVA cast, made just a few months after the OVA actually.

So instead of Seki, Hoshi, Hirata, and Ishida, it's Takagi, Okano, Yamadera, and Ishida. Even the Kougaiji crew and the gods have different voices. And it makes it a bit difficult to tell who is who at first XD but ya.

So I ripped them for everyone!

They aren't the beginning of the story. In fact, they are completely original stories we haven't seen/read/heard before. The first one is a fairly short story that's fairly uneventful XD. Some youkai, some monks giving them some hassles, general ikkou shenanigans. The second one is far more servicey, though. The ikkou wind up at some fancy onsen and end up staying there. And, for the lulz, the Kougaiji crew show up as well! The two groups end up bumping into each other in the hot spring and they all end up going back to the ikkou's room for shenanigans. Like Hakkai and Yaone having a drinking contest, Goku and Lirin playing a never ending game of ping pong, mahjong, and the weirdest karaoke I've ever heard.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4FCV33TW <~ Saiyuki 2

Though I prefer my Seki, Hoshi, and Hirata to play the parts, it's still lots of fun. Really the main differences between these two and the rest of the drama CDs and the manga is that 1) Hakkai CAN get wasted, 2) Dokugakuji is more like Gojyo, 3) Sanzo's quite a bit more lenient.

EDIT: I thought I'd take pictures of the CDs for ya guys. I don't have a scanner, but ya, it's somethin', right? lj-cut

Sorry for the silence of the last week but I went in Japan.
I visited Tokyo and I went to Saiyuki FESTA ’09! *___*
I’ve planned to go in Japan in 2010 but, reading about FESTA, I’ve decided at the last minute, to anticipate my trip.
I leaved Italy on 27th October and I came back on 2nd November.
Unfortunately I wasn’t able to meet Kazuya Minekura like I hoped but I bought so many Saiyuki gadgets!
Moreover I visited Tokyo (I’m very sad because I missed the occasion to meet [info]arisu_krd!!! AAARGH!!!)
I love Tokyo! I can’t wait to come there again soon!

About Saiyuki FESTA it was AMAZING. Although I went on Bunka Kaikan 4° floor three hours before the beginning of the event, 200 people to get Minekura’s sign were there yet ç_ç
To buy everything you needed to form a queue. But these queues were sooooooo long!!!
I managed to get some items but I gave up to get postcards…the queue to get them was incredible…it was long for the 4 floors of the building!!! I bet I should be still there now…
About the show, there were so many plates. Some of them HUGE! There were the original plates of manga. I loved the ones about Kamisama arc! Amazing! Do you remember the vignette in which behind Kamisama there is a huge stained-glass window? In the show there was this illustration and, thanks to some particular lights, seemed to see the colours on it!
Were showed so many coloured illustrations! Many sketches and the weapons of Saiyuki characters: Tenpou’s katana, the Smith&Wesson, one of the Gato’s gun and the golden gun used in Tenkai!
Unfortunately was forbidden make photos to these parts of the show. But was possible make photos to the clothes of main characters, of JEEP, of the silhouettes of Sanzo Ikkou…

More under the cut! )

Raining Meatballs

  • Nov. 4th, 2009 at 6:45 AM
weekend

Hope everyone had a lovely Halloween weekend! I opted to stay in that night, as I didn't feel like venturing out into the rain to go to a party in the city. A good idea too, since I was (and still am) beating back a cold! I spent most of the day on Saturday watching the NCIS marathon and feeling stuffy in the head. Also finally got around to watching the Wolverine movie, which wasn't as bad as everyone seemed to say it was. Maybe it was good to go in with low expectations? I kind of wish there could've been more build up and development of the story between the brothers, though.

cloudy with a chance of meatballs

Was feeling much better on Sunday, so popped over to meet a friend at the theater to see "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" in 3D. I might sound quite behind in the times, but aside from IMAX films, this was my first ever 3D movie. @___O Although it didn't make me feel like I was in the middle of a meatball rain shower as I thought it would, the effects were kinda cool nevertheless. The movie itself was charming and enjoyable. There was one particular scene where I laughed my head off: the part where the main character calls up his dad and asks him to find a file on his computer and send it to him as an email attachment. His dad's eyes get really big and he looks pretty uncertain about the whole prospect, but agrees to do it because the fate of the whole world depends on it.

I dunno about you, but if the fate of the world depended on whether my mom could be trusted to email a file to me from my computer, I'd be very very worried. XD;;; So in the movie, the dad locates the computer and is desperately attempting to follow his son's instructions. "Drag the mouse across the screen!!" the boy yells at him through the phone. Dad panics and takes the mouse, putting it literally on top of the screen and swiping it across! Hahaha!! (Okay, my mom isn't THAT bad...she can handle a mouse. Although she does have problems with the double click).

Actually, my mom surprised me the other day by saying that she is currently addicted to Youtube, and found herself watching one video after another, late into the night!

Ack....time to rush off to work!!

I'm looking for Vol 9 Reload scans...

  • Nov. 3rd, 2009 at 2:48 PM
I'm looking for scans of vol 9 of Saiyuki Reload, raw or translated, I'm not picky. I already do own an official copy, bought legally in Japan. However, said copy is currently at home in the States, while I'm in England, and I was really hoping to read it now that I've caught up on the earlier stuff. If anyone could help, that'd be great. Thanks!

irony, thy name is organized religion.

  • Nov. 2nd, 2009 at 10:35 AM
While looking up religious symbols for my art project:

“A HEAD under the feet of St. Catherine of Alexandria is that of the Emperor Maximian, who ruled the Roman Empire jointly with Diocletian, one of the worst of the prosecutors of Christians. It symbolises the triumph of the new faith over paganism and cruelty.”

So, celebrating the Christian victory over cruelty with a gory beheading? I know history is filled with this kind of thing, but wow. These sort of books never fail to remind me just how classy early religion was.

Also it is raining down in buckets and my foot prevented me from going to school today and I am sitting by a warmly-lit kitchen table, browsing old books and sipping chai. Life is very good.

a brief collection of shout-outs

  • Nov. 1st, 2009 at 8:14 PM
1. It has been raining for the last three days, and tomorrow looks to be furiously stormy. Hey, winter, welcome back. ♥

(ETA: OH MY GOD YOU GUYS THE SKY IS FALLING. The storm hit earlier than expected and now everything is all BOOMING THUNDER and PELTING RAIN and FLASHING ANGRY LIGHTNING. It is like several dozen drumkits falling down several dozen stairwells. Mum foresees leaks in our immediate future.)

2. Four more days until the cast is taken off! Perhaps I will keep the pimp cane even afterwards; I have rather taken to it.

3. I FINISHED WATCHING KINGS. Thank you so, so much to [info]gunning_angel for holding my hand and screaming with me throughout the final five episodes. It hurt at times, but it was worth it.

4. Who is interested in Norse and Jewish mythology, Jungian archetypes, and Loki & Ashmedai as examples of the Trickster archetype in folklore? Who is interested in reading a 40-something-page essay about all of the above? If you are one of these chosen few, perhaps you'd like to read (and hopefully review) the first draft of my finals project. Sign up here!

5. I have posted a quasi-historical quasi-poetic quasi-song rec entry up at [info]anomylic:
